Kelly Phillips Erb has a J.D. and an LL.M. in Taxation from Temple University School of Law.

Kelly graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, NC, before heading to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. While at law school, Kelly interned with the estates attorney division of the Internal Revenue Service, where she participated in the review and audit of federal estate tax returns and even led a successful audit.

She also writes and hosts the Taxgirl podcast, which lives on the popular Taxgirl blog at www.taxgirl.com, consistently recognized by the ABA Journal as one of the top blogs written by lawyers.

Kelly has served as a writer and editor for Bloomberg and Forbes. She has previously written about taxes for CNNMoney, Reuters, Time, and AOL's WalletPop and has been asked to describe taxes in plain English by such media outlets as ABCNews.com, Esquire, National Public Radio's Marketplace, CBS Radio's Marketwatch, BBC, Inc., and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kelly received the "40 under 40" award in 2012, which recognizes young professionals in the Delaware Valley as determined by the Philadelphia Business Journal. In 2013, she was named one of 23 Main Line Today's "Power Women," which celebrates women making an impact in the region. A year later, she received the inaugural Pennsylvania Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Practice Section Award.

Committed to promoting the tax profession, Kelly was named Outstanding Supporter of E.A.s by the National Association of Enrolled Agents in 2020. The award recognizes significant contributions by non-NAEA organizations or individuals who are not enrolled agents, which have an immediate and long-term impact on making "Enrolled Agents" and "E.A." more readily recognizable nationally, regionally, or locally.

In 2022, Kelly received the Beltz Award for Editorial Excellence from Bloomberg Tax. The Beltz Award for Editorial Excellence is named for Bill Beltz, who worked at BNA for 47 years, rising from editor to manager to editor-in-chief, president, and finally chairman of the board, until his death in 2003. Bill focused relentlessly on quality, recognizing that top-notch content is what readers need.

Kelly is an active Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) member and has served for many years on the PBA Solo and Small Firm Practice Section Council.

Kelly is a member of the Pennsylvania bar and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Tax Court.

Kelly is also a mom to three children, so she can add science fair expert, cupcake baker, and sports mom to her resume.
